Place your patch to fill the hole the way that the patch s fibers follow the direction of the rest carpeting fibers.
Can you fix a patch of carpet.
Remove the old carpet tape from under both sides of the seam or rip.
Carpet patching is a simple system of carefully cutting out the damaged area and replacing it with a patch of donor carpet of the same size.
Use the utility knife to lift the edges of the seam or rip.
Orient the patch so the grain of the carpet runs the same direction as the installed carpet then.
Apply carpet adhesive to the fabric and to the carpet edges that surround the hole you cut out.
Properly planned and executed.
If the rip is small enough you might need to lengthen it with the utility knife.
If those fraying discoloring factors have concentrated in one particular section of your carpet you can patch the installation rather than replace the entire thing.
Because the donor area is filled in either with a piece of remnant carpet or is left unrepaired carpet patching is considered to be imperfect but a net overall improvement.
Hold the patch in place for a little while.
If you re using carpet tape stick it onto the base floor as well.
Keep in mind that if you plan on replacing the carpet the patch will adhere to the padding making it harder to salvage the pad.
Use the utility knife if you need to cut the old tape at the end of the seam.
